The Department of Veterans Affairs is the second largest agency in American government, yet there’s far too few muckrakers sniffing around the department to figure out what’s going on. I’m one of them.
For over three years I’ve been reporting on veterans’ issues, the VA, and, from time to time, the military, for outlets including The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Politico, The New Republic, The American Prospect, and The Baffler. Among other things I’ve exposed snake oil salesmen selling phony PTSD treatments, chronicled President Trump’s privatization of key VA services to the benefit of private healthcare interests, and revealed the government’s long history of dosing soldiers and veterans with toxic drug cocktails.
